1. Why did you join the technology industry?
I have a degree in Engineering Physics, so it was a pretty obvious place for me to begin my career. I’ve stayed because I love the constant challenges and learning that the tech industry offers.
2. Who is the person who has inspired you professionally?
From afar – women like Roberta Bondar who’ve broken huge barriers. I’ve also met many amazing women who’ve immigrated to this country, and I am humbled by the fact that they had to overcome cultural and language barriers, along with gender barriers, in order to succeed in their careers.
3. If you could give one piece of advice to your 13-year-old self what would it be?
My 13-year-old self was mourning the loss of what she had hoped would become a professional ballet career – I would absolutely tell her that life is full of interesting things to learn and that she’ll find many other things to be passionate about.
4. How do you think we can encourage more women in tech?
There are so many ways. Normalize STEM to young girls by showing them a diverse set of roles models. Invite young adults into the tech world to see what we do. Actively think about diversity when hiring and be open to a broader set of candidates: select for aptitude and capacity rather than pure experience. Be any ally to women – for example, ensure they are heard in meetings if their voices are not being heard.
5. What is the best part of your job?
I love solving problems, learning new technologies, discovering how customers use our products. I also having a part in helping others advance in their careers.
