1. Why did you join the technology industry?

Since I graduated from University I was always drawn to the tech world. The sector produces many incredible innovations, products and companies that change the way we live, work and communicate. The people I meet and work with on a daily basis are smart, talented and incredibly innovative. I believe that technology has the power to change the world for the better and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.

2. Who is the person who has inspired you professionally?

I am part of an incredible group of Canadian Community Builders with incredible women and men that inspire and support me every day. The group is composed of amazing people that want to contribute to our community and move the needle on pending issues. I also have a mentor who works in tech and we meet on a regular basis to talk about career development as well as professional and personal growth.

3. If you could give one piece of advice to your 13-year-old self what would it be?

Be confident, pursue your goals and stay curious. I always thought it was very important what other people thought of me. As I’m progressing in my career, I feel that it’s much more important to look at how I can contribute to the community and how its members can work together to move the needle on matters that are important to us. I see that happening in the Toronto tech ecosystem and it makes me incredibly proud.

4. How do you think we can encourage more women in tech?

I think we’re still far away from having reached equality for women in tech. Women still typically get paid less than their male counterparts and I have personally witnessed sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace. I think we need to stand up and speak out against stereotypes and make sure tech is a great place to work for everyone. I hope we can encourage more women to work in tech by supporting each other and lifting each other up.

5. What is the best part of your job?
The amazing people I get to work with every day and the ideas I’m exposed to at my job. Supporting tech startups is extremely rewarding and I am proud of the strong network in tech that I was able to build over the past few years.
