Years in Technology: 8
Current Title: Head of Core Product
Current Organization: Wattpad
1. Why did you join the technology industry?
I didn’t join technology with that intent. I’ve always been passionate about the arts, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. I want my work to make a difference and for it to speak to my passions. I ended up in technology because it was the most impactful way for me to make a difference and follow my passions. The values of the startup environment were most closely aligned with my own.
2. Who is the person who has inspired you professionally?
There is no one person, but many people across my life have inspired me in many ways.
3. If you could give one piece of advice to your 13-year-old self what would it be?
I would tell her that she is already strong. Her strength is not in her knowledge, her skills, her toughness. Her strength is her compassion, her integrity, her vulnerability and her wisdom. She should be proud of that strength. Never hide it. Never run from it. That strength is what makes her special and what will bring her success.
4. How do you think we can encourage more women in tech?
People with power and privilege in the industry need to play a big role in driving inclusion and diversity. You can’t be what you can’t see, so representation matters. Technology leaders need to make that a priority in how they build their companies. Seeing more women in tech across all areas, especially leadership, makes a big difference.
5. What is the best part of your job?
The work I do has real impact. The Wattpad product touches millions of lives, on a deep emotional level through stories. Seeing the impact of our product and the voices we give to so many across the world is incredibly fulfilling. And of course, I am so fortunate to work with incredibly inspiring and dedicated people.
